What compounded means — and what it doesn't.
Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved finished drug products and are not therapeutically equivalent to Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound. They are prepared by state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacies on patient-specific prescriptions under Section 503A of the FD&C Act.
Following the resolution of the FDA drug shortage for semaglutide (February 2025) and tirzepatide (December 2024), compounded GLP-1 medications in 2026 require documented individual clinical justification from a licensed provider — not simply a cost preference. Your prescribing physician at Wasef Health, PC makes that determination.
Clinical data referenced — including average weight loss figures — is sourced from the STEP-1 trial (semaglutide, −14.9% avg body weight, Wilding et al., NEJM 2021) and SURMOUNT-1 trial (tirzepatide, −22.5% avg body weight at 15mg, Jastreboff et al., NEJM 2022). That data reflects FDA-approved brand-name products. Individual results vary.
